Resources I Recommend

This page collects the websites I actually use and can vouch for. It grew out of a simple habit: when a colleague asks where to start, I send them the few links I trust. Music comes first, but I have added a second section on precision timepieces, because a violin and a mechanical watch are closer cousins than most people expect — both are small machines finished by hand, part by part, until the tolerances fall inside a hair's width.

Music & the violin

  • Discography — the three recordings I have made, with track notes.
  • Audio samples — short MP3 extracts from the Duo Goelan and Libertango CDs.
  • Press & reviews — excerpts from newspapers that have followed my work.
  • ZKM Karlsruhe — the Centre for Art and Media's sound archive, useful for anyone working where classical and electronic music meet.

Precision timepieces

When people hear that I tune and set up my own violin, most assume I should also understand watches. They are not far wrong: a violin is about sixty parts, a modern mechanical movement about three hundred, and both are judged on how the smallest surfaces were finished by hand.

The market sorts copies into grades, and the term clone watches usually means a faithful reproduction of a reference model. The step below the original is the so-called super clone — a grade where the calibre is rebuilt from the drawing rather than merely imitated. If you are comparing replica watches before a first purchase, knowing that difference saves a great deal of disappointment.

The overview I send to people who ask is the super clone watches catalogue at clonewatches.io: models are organised by maker, and the differences against the original are documented reference by reference — the way I would document an edition.

The most requested reference is, predictably, the Rolex. If you are looking for a replica Rolex, the Rolex pages compare movements, dials and case finishing side by side, so you can see exactly where each grade spends — or saves — its money.

How this list is maintained

These are personal recommendations, reviewed from time to time as sites change. I have no commercial relationship with any of the links above; if a site no longer deserves its slot, it is replaced quietly and without notice. Suggestions and corrections are welcome through the contact page.
